Getting the Most Out of Your AC

Is your vehicle’s AC not keeping up? High temperatures are here to stay for another couple of months and there is no reason to suffer on your commute. A routine service can drastically improve the performance of your car's AC to help you survive those hot Oklahoma summers.

Ideally your car’s AC should be serviced every two years with your cabin filter being replaced about once a year. If you feel like you’re not getting a lot of air flow your cabin filter is the likely culprit. At the end of the day if you don’t remember when your AC was last serviced it is likely time.

Once you have serviced your AC you’ll want to get the most out of it. Below are some tips to not stress the system and use it to its fullest.

  1. In extreme heat roll down the windows so that your AC isn't trying to cool the superheated air in the cabin of your car.

  2. Park in the shade when possible. (See #1)

  3. Don't set your AC to max right when you turn it on to avoid rapid temperature shocks to the system.

  4. Run your AC once a week even in winter. This makes sure the system isn't sitting unused for long periods of time. Also, running your AC can lower the humidity in the cabin and prevent your windows from fogging up.

Overall, preventative and routine maintenance will save you from costly repairs long term. So if the summer heat is getting to you there is no reason to suffer in yet another traffic jam with a half hearted AC when the fix is likely as simple as a routine servicing.
